Debo Adegbile, the former head of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund who was nominated by President Obama to head the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ, saw his nomination voted down by a united Republican Party who were joined by a number of politically-scared Democrats who were lobbied by several influential police unions. The New York Times called this "the highest-profile defeat of a nominee on the Senate floor in the Obama presidency." Debo Adegbile, the former head of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund who was nominated by President Obama to head the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ, saw his nomination voted down by the Senate in what the New York Times called “the highest-profile defeat of a nominee on the Senate floor in the Obama presidency.”
